West coast, Åsa - *****
4.o + AW = 240'
E P I C !!!
I was more motivated to head for Torö. Mats had a firm grip of the steering wheel of his trusty Transit and headed for Åsa on the west coast. I have to admit I was a little concerned. We arrived at lunch - people were over powered on their 3.7 sails. : )
We rigged and headed for the rocky instep. I struggled for the first 45 minutes since I had my straps way too tight - bad mistake. After I finally adjusted them I slowly started to get in sync with the waves. The wind backed off a bit and I had to schlog for a while with my 4.0 SuperFreak. I just couldn't resist to milk the waves much to close to the rocky shore. I managed to hit my knee and fin real hard on the stones. Mostly I rode until I wiped out on the inside.
The waves varied between 2 - 4 meters. For an hour or so the two sections connected which was fun.
In the late afternoon Björn, Mats, Ola H and I were alone in the 45-50 knot wind. It was tough conditions but so much fun. In the end a squall of rain was coming in and I was already really over powered so I called it a day and closed the Åsa shop.
The best thing of the day though was that I finally got the chance to go for an aerial - my first. All went well, I landed on top of the wave but didn't have the right positioning/weight and the wave escaped. I was up and going on the backside though. It felt really good.
For the first time ever we filmed a total of thirteen minutes - stay tuned.
