Roxen - ****
4.0 + SQ75 = 120'
Got up early and drove 150 km north to pick up my new board - a Simmer Quantum 75. Ola, tha shaping wizard of the board, met up a bit stressed. He was late for a running session with a mate. We selected fins and I received a new set of foot straps.
Back home I ate lunch and went over to Udden on my bike, a good warm up. As you can see in my previous post I'm better trained than ever.
On the water
All the usual suspects were present. I decided to take a bit of a chance with my 4.0 sail. Good decision - I didn't need to re rig. Sometimes overpowered, sometimes schlogging - most of the time comfortably powered up.
There was a lot of good ramps to be found. I had some great fun.
2012 Simmer Quantum 75 - First impression
This is my first multifin board. The first one I tried was a Starboard Quad 82, some two years ago. It rode the waves at Åsa as nothing I had tried before - I was hooked. What I didn't like though was the stance. Would my new board feel as awkward in a straight line?
No! Maybe because I didn't have the big fins in the front like Ola. What I still don't really like, coming from a single fin, is the lack of grip in a straight line. I guess I'll have to adjust my stance a bit.
What I did like!
Due to the looseness it felt as if I could get between 0,5-1 meter more height in the jumps. The board reacts quicker without losing speed when I redirect upwind to hit the wave (dead onshore). Good!
Looseness
This board is soo reactive and really fast to whip around, both frontside and backside. It'll probably be perfect in proper waves. I can hardly wait. Feels good to have some time to get used to a multifin before Oahu.
2012 Starboard Quad WoodCarbon 87
This little gem is waiting to be ridden. I'll be using it for Oahu's light winds on the south shore. It'll be perfect.
